The damage has already begun, in cases too defused to designate as “clusters”.
The first time around IBM’s spokespersons pleaded ignorance.
This time they have no cover story.
This is a grave public health issue, requiring a massive public awareness campaign.
When the bread winner of a family dies, or contacts a debilitating disease, or has an off-spring born with severe defects, a family is traumatized and devastated.
So what if the members of that family are
not Americans ?
Is a Chinese’s life, or an East Indian’s life any less valuable than an American’s ?
Are persons of other nations “Throwaways” ???
IBM’s computer components expose workers to harsh industrial strength chemicals. IBM is not alone in this travesty, but IBM feigns itself a world industry leader and standard bearer. When IBM and other large manufacturers felt the heat from large legal settlements in the USA, they out-sourced their production and chemical exposures to less developed nations. The expectation was that people would be so glad to get jobs that they would ask very few questions.
It may take decades for many of the work related exposures to manifest themselves in various afflictions. In the meantime, and in-between-time, IBM and other multi-national corporations are raking in Billion$$$$$ per year. They take their chances on paying lawyers and settling litigation if and when they are cornered. From their perspective, it’s just a cost of doing business !
I am a widow because of IBM’s callous, heartless, greedy attitude towards profit at any cost.
